Wrapped in Culture is a collaborative project initiated by Rosalie Favell that brought together ten Indigenous artists from Australia and Canada for a three-week art collaboration to create a buffalo robe and a possum skin cloak.
Completed in the Fall of 2017 the resulting robe and cloak were displayed as part of an exhibition that opened 12 April 2019 at the new Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG). The exhibition was curated by Wahsontiio Cross, OAG’s RBC Emerging Indigenous Curator, and reflected the results of the collaborative experience shared in 2017.
Also included in the exhibition was a portrait series by Rosalie Favell of each of the artists in the Buffalo Robe and Possum Cloak. The exhibition was on view at Wanuskewin Heritage Park Gallery in Saskatoon until April 2020 before it tours Canada and Australia.
The Queen Victoria Art Gallery will be the first Australian location to host the travelling exhibition.
