The Kimberley Aboriginal Artists – a partnership of Mangkaja Arts, Mowanjum Art & Culture, Waringarri Aboriginal Arts and Warmun Art Centre – present an exhibition of performance and artefacts that reflects the Kimberley’s rich connection to traditional song and dance. This vibrant collection showcases dance totems, head dresses, dance boards, string belts, masks and armbands and will be complimented by digital presentations of traditional performances.
The digital presentations of performances have been collected during a three-year recording project across the Kimberley region where songs and dances have been reinvigorated and shared with youth and community encouraging a renewed engagement in cultural performance. Each of the four artist communities has developed performances, teaching new songs and dances, re-awakening old performances that enrich Kimberley culture.
