IDAIA is delighted to dedicate the entire week (5-12 March 2013) to International Women’s Day (IWD 2013), celebrating in particular Aboriginal Women Artists.
During the week, IDAIA regularly posted articles, views, photos on most of our social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest.
As celebrating and reflecting on the art of Australian Indigenous Women Artists shouldn’t take place only one day, any feedback, comments and insights people wish to share are greatly appreciated on a regular basis and any time of the year.
We would like to acknowledge and thanks all contributors part of the IWD celebration for their insightful articles and views, notably: Michele McCabe, Alexiane Henry, Bertrand Estrangin, and Georges Bureau.
The following written contributions can be found on this website by clicking on the corresponding links:
- Breaking Paradigms: Celebrating Aboriginal Women Artists: Michele McCabe, an American Collector of Aboriginal women artworks and one of IDAIA’s loyal supporters, shares her perception with a detailed essay,
- Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists? (Linda Nochlin): Alexiane Henry, Art Administrator and Curator at IDAIA,
- Perception of Aboriginal women’s art: Bertrand Estrangin, important European collector of Aboriginal art, Inuit art and objects (Brocard-Estrangin Collection) got caught up into IDAIA’s action week of celebrating IWD 2013 and shares with us his perception,
- “Ceci n’est pas un ciel étoilé”: by George Bureau, ex team member at IDAIA and Curator of exhibition Gestuelles – the art of transmission by Aboriginal Desert women at Alliance Francaise de Canberra in 2012.
Wonderful paintings are illustrating the diverse contributions and can be seen as an inspiring, visual testament to Indigenous women’ strength, resilience, artistic innovation and brilliant individual talents.
