Fondation Opale in Lens, Switzerland is hosting the first international exhibition of Australian Indigenous artist Robert Fielding.
“Through the lens, I do not only see an abandoned object or a forgotten moment, I also see users, I perceive routines and I try to appropriate these objects or these moments of everyday life by infusing them again with life, allowing them to tell their story again “.
– Robert Fielding
As a descendant of the stolen generation, Robert Fielding grew up influenced by two very different cultures: Western urban life and traditional Aboriginal Law. Robert’s work combines these two worlds by using abandoned objects of modern life as a means of expression of traditional Aboriginal art. With his photographs, he offers us his interpretation of history and shows us that the future of Aboriginal communities is in their hands.
Robert Fielding is an award-winning artist and Aboriginal leader from the Mimili Maku Arts centre in Mimili community, South Australia.
